April 25, 2015 – Well, hello everyone, and all the best to you here in the midst of Spring. Today is a beautiful day. All of the mountains around here are dusted with bright green as the newest leaves unfold at the beginning of another journey around the hot side of the color wheel. The seeds are sown in the garden and I’ve been cleaning and fixing things wot need mending around the house. Balusters here, window trim there, thus ‘n such.
I did end up being the happy recipient of the lovely gift of The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers Omnibus, which I have been enjoying slowly reading through. “The Idiots Abroad,” a three issue full-color epic, blew my mind with its absolutely phenomenal artwork and wild plot twists. The only thing I don’t like about the book is its relatively small size. It’s the first time, “being as young as I am,” that I have thought I might want to read a book with a magnifying glass.
Today I’ve posted the last two pages of Zoonbats Chapter 4. As for the first pages of Chapter 5, it will be a while before those see the light of your web browsing device. I’m a slow writer, as I believe I’ve mentioned before. Plus, I want to do something that might be termed Zoonbats Gaiden Mini… a small side story or two that I’ll write and draw with my little one, as she loves the characters and wants to know all about them. I’d like to make a short story or two with her that is not jam packed from front to back with cussin’, as Zoonbats is. As I’ve reflected on it, the language in Zoonbats isn’t really mean-spirited, insulting or degrading at all. It’s just a cultural thing, I guess, to use the saltiest adjectives and adverbs as possible. There’s a lot worse crap that’s accessible to kids, I’d say – much more insidous isht. But at the same time I don’t necessarily want some of this vocab in my 3-year-old’s daily rotation, plus it will be super fun to collab with her, so there ya have it. Please enjoy the finale to Chapter 4, and we’ll meet again on this here website some day soon!
